The Great Scottish Swim – Saturday 23rd August

The great Scottish swim is a 1 mile course in Loch Lomond. On the way to the race, the radio announced that a man had drowned there the previous evening and the authorities were trying to find his body.  Personally, I would have called off the swim! It doesn’t seem respectable to go ahead but I assume that as the Loch is so big they decided to go ahead with it.

It was a windy day so the loch was very wavey. The first section was tricky as I had to battle the waves and the number of people taking part. There was only limited space for the first 100m so it was just a matter of weaving between folk and trying not get hit by people from behind.

The second half of the course was easy. My sighting was pretty good so I didn’t feel I was going as astray as I have in the past.  At the finish line I popped out the water and discovered Andrew had finished at the same time as me. He noticed me and stopped to gloat that he had won, unfortunately, he had not crossed the line yet so I went over won by 1s.

He needs to reread the tale of the Rabbit and the Hare.

Bella Belter (10k) – Friday 15th August – 00:44:45

I did this race it a few years ago when I was trying to run a 10k in under 45 minutes. No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t get under the time. Race after race would end with my time being just over 45 minutes. The closest I got was 45min and 1s!

This time I went in with the goal of being around 46minutes but with no expectation of time. It was cold and I’d been ill during the week. Surprisingly I ran under 45 minutes which goes to show that training is pointless! Well, maybe that’s not the best conclusion.

i was pleased with the time but I always have the suspicion with this race that its not 10k as my watch GPS shows it as slightly shorter!
